Thanks, that's great.

I've attached a PDF of one of our termly newsletters too. It is sent to all heads of department, heads of college, departmental and college secretaries (for common rooms, notice boards, etc), IT support staff in colleges and departments, including OUCS, and JCR presidents as well as being left in display racks around the building. You can see more at http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/publicity/index.xml.ID=news

Jane

Just had a read looks very good.

I wonder if there are common threads which could be published across all University newsletters for staff or for students, Privacy, security issues etc perhaps. Much of the information is not always time sensative and needs to serve as reminders to core issues of using computing services. A bit of a newsletter sharing service between editors may be helpfull. Most newspapers rework old material all the time which is not always a bad thing as our student readership turns over every few years. One problem I know people have putting newletters together is having the time to do it and a mix of local and general issues may easy the burden.
Any views?

It would be very interesting to see if we can pull together some common threads although I suspect it will only work on very general topics. Even thinking of some features which apply to everyone like security, we'd want to include some information on local conditions, whether it was relating to university services like the main VLE or to local IT support provision. To be honest, the OUCS Newsletter is mainly news with very little space for more generic articles.

Since we implemented a variety of newsfeeds for staff to add their own news to, gathering copy has been greatly simplified. The newsfeeds are a bit of an uncoordinated tangle at times but at least I know that by trawling through 4 fairly concise newsfeeds I'll capture 95% of the news, rather than having to browse hundreds of potentially off-topic or "social" emails mixed in with a few nuggets of important announcements.

Yes the newsletters work because they are tight to the point and relevent to the audience at the Insitute. I will keep it in the back of my mind to see if there anything that may work. Do you find this valuable?
